Prebonded Hair Extension - What You Need To Know

November 18th 2018

Pre-Bonded Hair Extensions-What You Need to Know

Pre-bonded hair extensions are attached to the hair using a keratin-based adhesive. Keratin is the protein that your hair is made of and it’s gentler on your hair than other types of adhesive that might be harder to remove.

How are pre-bonded hair extensions applied?

When pre-bonded extensions are made, bonding adhesive is placed on the end of each extension. When they are fitted, your extensionist will fuse the bonded tip to your natural hair with a heated clamp that looks a little bit like thin hair straighteners. This melts the adhesive which is then rolled to make the extension secure. When the extensions are removed, the extensionist will use a special remover to remove the glue safely to minimise damage to the hair.

What are the benefits of pre-bonded hair extensions?

• Pre-bonded extensions are very secure and less likely to slip than other methods, so they’re a great choice if you have an active lifestyle.

• They so feel comfortable and natural that you might even forget that you have extensions in!

• They’re a good choice for people with fine or damaged hair that might struggle to take the weight of hair fitted using different methods like micro rings. The pre-bonded extensions are the only method where the strands of hair can be customised, creating micro bonds to extend a fringe for example.

How to maintain pre-bonded extensions

If you follow the aftercare instructions, including using the recommended hair care products, your extensions will last much longer. As I’ve mentioned in previous blogs, it doesn’t make any sense spending your hard-earned cash on premium quality hair and then not taking the time to look after it.

Another big part of looking after your extensions is having regular maintenance appointments in the salon to keep them in good condition. I’ll usually check that they’re not matted, take out any extensions that are loose (the adhesive can loosen as your hair grows out) and replace them with new extensions.

When clients come to me, they can expect the best brands of hair and the best possible service. The main hair brands I use are Remi Cachet, Great Lengths, Tasha Jacks, and I have my own Indian Temple Hair. I also specialise in Curly Hair. The top quality hair and my precision fitting methods means that every client knows that their natural hair is being looked after. If clients do have any issues with their extensions, they can contact me straight away, come back to the salon and get it sorted; that’s the personal service I pride myself on.

You can book your consultation direct from the booking link on the website  and find out how I can help you achieve the hair of your dreams.  If you require further information before booking then please text/whatsapp/ring 07932078004.

Is a Micro Parting Your Perfect Hair Loss Solution?

November 18th 2018

Hair loss can be devastating for women and it can really affect confidence and self-esteem. While it’s true that men are more likely to lose their hair, hair loss in women is surprisingly common.

What causes hair loss?

Androgenic Alopecia:

This is hereditary female-pattern hair loss. In men, pattern baldness often starts at the hairline, but in women, the first thing they often notice is hair thinning at their parting.

Hormonal imbalance:

Hormonal peaks and troughs can also cause hair thinning and loss. Hair can look healthy and shiny during pregnancy but afterwards the drop in hormones can cause hair thinning. Falling hormone levels after the menopause can have the same effect.

Thyroid problems:

If your body produces too much or too little thyroid hormone, hair thinning can occur, because one of the hormone’s functions is maintaining healthy hair growth.

Stress:

Physical and emotional stress can cause hair thinning and loss whether it’s because of the effects of stress hormones, you probably don’t look after yourself as well when you’re stressed, or the fact that it weakens your immune system and slows healthy hair growth.

Illnesses and medications:

Health conditions like polycystic ovaries can cause hair loss, and hair loss is a fairly common side effects of some medications like blood pressure medications or statins. Cancer patients will often lose their hair as a result of chemotherapy, as the drugs target healthy cells (those in the hair follicles) as well as cancer cells.

Always get hair loss checked out

Unexplained or sudden hair loss should always be investigated by a doctor or trichologist, as treatments and solutions will depend on the cause.

The Hot Locks Micro Parting System

This fantastic hair system is designed for women who are suffering from hair thinning in the parting area. The system will add volume, and hide the thinning areas from view.

Is it easy to maintain?

It is easy to care for but to keep your system looking as good as possible for as long as possible and to protect your natural hair, there are some aftercare guidelines you must follow. The system will need to be re-aligned in the salon every 4-6 weeks.

How do I book a consultation?

If you would like to discuss whether a Micro Parting is the solution for you, contact me on 07932078004 or at [email protected]

The consultation

Your consultation is completely private as I work on a one to one basis from the modern studio salon in my home. We’ll discuss your hair in more details and talk about your options. Sometimes, a Micro Parting won’t be the ideal solution for a client, and in those cases, another solution like the Volumiser Mesh Integration System might be more suitable.

If you decide to go ahead, we’ll decide on the right length for you and the hair origin you want, plus I’ll get a colour match. A non-refundable deposit is required upon booking, then the parting will be ordered and we’ll book a date in for you to have it fitted. All partings are custom made for each client.

Is your hair long enough for Hair Extensions? Meet Tracy - my lovely client!

November 13th 2018

How long does my natural hair have to be?

Your natural hair has to be 5 inches in length all over or longer, so the best thing to do if your thinking of having extensions is book an appointment for a consultation with a Hair Extensionist and discuss your requirements.

You can book your appointment here

August 2018 - Consultation 1st Appointment

Tracy came for a consultation in August 2018 and we discussed a plan of action, Tracy knew her natural hair was too short then to have extensions but we discussed that she should start growing it and come back in November 2019  nearly 12 weeks later and we would check progress of her hair growth.

Here is a picture of Tracys natural hair in August 2018.

November 2018 - Consultation 2nd Appointment

November has arrived and Tracy is back for her second consultation.  Her natural hair has grown and I have decided to go ahead and arrange a fitting date.  Tracy is aware that her hair will need lots of maintenance and she is prepared to put the work in to look after her hair extensions and to keep them in tip top condition along with her own natural hair.

November 2018 - Hair Extension Fitting Day

Tracy arrived for her appointment and her hair has been prepped at home so everything was ready and we used a combination of colours in ultra tips and mini tips from Remi Cachet and right around the top we used injection tape hair extensions so that the blend of the natural shorter hair at the top would blend easy with the injection tapes and rest of the extensions.  The hair was 16 inches and then cut and styled to Tracys desired length.

Finished Result

Four hours later after fitting, cut, styled and blended, Tracy was on her way out with her full aftercare kit which consists of hair extension shampoo, hair extension conditioner and a protein spray, shake and protect spray, Kent hair extension brush, small handbag hair extension brush, big wide tooth comb and a bobble to tied her hair back for bed.

Tracy left with everything she needed to maintain her extensions, a two week follow up appointment and a further appointment for a refit.

Tracy knows that she can contact me anytime if she is having any difficulties and if she follows the aftercare instructions given to her at consultation she will have no issues at all.

Say No to Sulphates

October 30th  2018

If you’re conscious about what you’re putting on your skin, and on your hair, you might have heard that sulphates are the enemy.

If you look on your shampoo bottle, you’ll probably see it listed as SLS or sodium lauryl sulphate, and it’s one of the most common ingredients used to make your shampoo lather. For years, we’ve been told that the more lather you get, the cleaner your hair will be, but sadly that’s just not true. Sulphates will strip dirt from your hair but they’ll also strip the natural oils that keep your hair and scalp healthy. The end result is a dry, irritated scalp and dry, fragile hair.

Why are sulphates bad news for hair extensions?

Hair extensions aren’t attached to the scalp like your natural hair so they get no nourishment and protection from the scalp’s natural oils. So if you use shampoos containing sulphates to wash your extensions, this can leave them feeling dry, rough, dull, and brittle, even after just a few washes. Your hair extensions are an investment, but if you use the wrong hair products and don’t treat them right, they won’t look good for very long.

How to care for your extensions properly

So avoid products containing sulphates or other drying chemicals like parabens at all costs. I can recommend shampoos and conditioners which are designed especially for keeping your hair extensions looking amazing. I’d also recommend using a deep conditioning treatment on them every week, because they get no natural oils from your scalp to keep them hydrated, so giving them some much-needed moisture is important.

Aside from washing your extensions with the correct products, it’s important to brush them gently with a hair extension brush, starting from the ends and working your way up to gently detangle them. And finally, to keep your extensions looking perfect for longer, it’s important to come to the salon for maintenance so I can check them over.

It’s all about the aftercare

The best way to keep your extensions in great condition is to follow the aftercare instructions I give you to the letter. Why would you spend your hard-earned cash on top quality hair and use a cheap or damaging shampoo on it?

When clients come to me, they can expect the best brands of hair and the best possible service. The main hair brands I use are Remi Cachet, Great Lengths, Tasha Jacks, and I have my own Indian Temple Hair. I also specialise in Curly Hair. The top quality hair and my precision fitting methods means that every client knows that their natural hair is being looked after. Why Your Hair Extensions Never Seem to Last

October 22nd 2018

Maybe you’ve had cheap, poor quality hair extensions in the past, or you’re wearing them now and seriously regretting parting with your hard-earned cash because the gorgeous, full, and shiny locks you walked out of the salon with just haven’t lasted. So why do your hair extensions never seem to last?

They’re not real human hair extensions

Sadly, some companies will advertise hair extensions as human hair, then when you have them fitted and you go home and wash them yourself, it soon becomes clear that they’re just covered with silicone and they’re mostly synthetic. Always go to a reputable hair salon to get your extensions fitted. Check out customer reviews, and make sure they have the experience and expertise to give you exactly what you want.

You’re using the wrong products

If you’re offered specialist hair extension hair care products, this is for a good reason. If you use any old shampoo, or even a decent brand, that contains chemicals like sulphates, it will strip the extensions of their moisture and they’ll end up looking like straw.

You put them through the mill

You might go swimming, work out, and heat style your hair, and this puts quite a bit of stress on extensions. Remember that they are human hair, so they should be treated as such. Your natural hair would get damaged if you heat styled your hair and swam in a chlorinated pool regularly, so ease off on the straighteners and get a good hair extension care routine in place.

Your hair extensions are not Remy quality

Obviously human hair extensions are better quality than synthetic hair, but even human hair extensions vary widely in quality and price, and that is because some hair is well-known to be of better quality. As a rule, the better quality hair does cost more but it lasts longer. Remy hair extensions are amazing quality and Remy hair is among the best hair you can get.

They haven’t been fitted properly

To go back to an earlier point, going to an experienced and reputable salon or technician will save you a lot of problems with your extensions. They’ll be using better quality hair which will last you longer (cheaper hair can be tempting but it’s often cheap for a reason), and better aftercare products so that your hair stays looking and feeling amazing for as long as possible.

How to Look After your Hair Extensions as the Temperature Drops

September 25th 2018

The colder weather can be very harsh on your hair.  Going from warm central heating indoors to cold biting winds outside can leave your hair dry, tangled, frizzy, and brittle.  Hair extensions are no exception.  If your extensions are made from human hair, they are just as prone to damage from the weather and excessive heat styling as your natural hair is.  But follow our tips and you will have gorgeous locks through the autumn, winter, and beyond. Here’s our guide to how to look after your hair extensions as the temperature drops.

Use the right products

Nasties like sulphates in shampoos can dry out hair extensions so always use products specifically designed for them.  Think about using a moisturising formula in the autumn and winter to keep your locks hydrated.

Detangle them the right way

Like any longer hair, extensions can be prone to tangling, but the key to dealing with them without damaging the hair is the right brush and the right technique.  Use a brush specifically designed for hair extensions and when you brush, put your hand on the roots to support the attachment area, then start brushing the hair from the ends, working towards the scalp.

Use a hair treatment

Using a hair mask once per week is a great way of hydrating the hair and preventing any damage to your extensions.  The Hot Locks Boost treatment is amazing!

Fight the frizz

Hair oils, like Argan oil are great for fighting static and frizz caused by the cold weather and the woolly clothes and hats we wear. Apply a small amount to the lengths and ends to keep your hair looking smooth and sleek.

Avoid hot showers

Even though it might be tempting to turn up the heat in the shower when you’ve been freezing all day, hot water can dry out your extensions and make them dull and brittle.

Use Heat protection

On summer days, you probably don’t mind leaving your hair to dry naturally, and this is okay as long as the root area is completely dryed first,  but when it’s colder, it’s uncomfortable to be sitting around for too long with damp hair.  So the chances are, you will use your hair dryer more when it’s colder, and this can leave your extensions feeling parched.  Always use heat protection products before you heat style your hair to keep your hair healthy and nourished.

If you have any questions about looking after your hair extensions in the colder weather, ask me when you’re in the salon or contact me directly via website or email at [email protected] or text/ring on 07932078004

How to care for your hair extensions

August 19th, 2018

How to Care for Your Hair Extensions

You’ve just had a gorgeous set of extensions done, and you leave the salon feeling a million dollars, only to come unstuck when the hair starts shedding or it starts to feel like straw. Why does this happen to extensions? Usually it’s because you haven’t looked after them properly.

That’s why you need to know how to care for your hair extensions. If you do, they’ll look great and last you much longer.

How long do hair extensions usually last?

Top quality extensions that are really well looked after can last for a year or even longer. Bear in mind though that in general, the more you wash and style your extensions, the shorter their lifespan will be.

How to prevent tangling

Tangling is a common problem especially with super long extensions, and the best way to keep them tangle free is to brush them regularly and gently with a good quality hair extension paddle brush.

How to minimise hair shedding

When extensions are made from human hair, you can expect some light shedding just like there is with natural hair. Washing your hair extensions too frequently can cause shedding, so reduce the need for frequent washing by avoiding the excessive use of products. Your hair extensions will have a lovely sheen anyway, so you shouldn’t need too much product to make them look amazing.

Washing your extensions

If your stylist recommends shampoos, conditioners, and other products for use on your extensions, it’s not because they want to make more money out of you, it’s for a good reason. The right products are formulated for extensions and they’ll keep them looking nourished and healthy. Generally steer clear of products that contain sulphates, parabens, alcohol as these can dry the hair out.

Use a deep conditioning treatment

Hair extensions don’t get any natural oils from the scalp so they need to be kept well moisturised. Apply a deep conditioning treatment once per week to keep your extensions soft and healthy.

Colouring hair extensions

I always tell my clients that I don’t recommend colouring their hair extensions as they are processed beforehand.

Have regular maintenance

It’s a good idea to book in for maintenance appointments to keep your extensions looking fab. They’re an investment, so looking after them is well worth it.

By following these tips and making sure you ask your stylist all the questions you want to ask about aftercare, you’ll get to enjoy your glamorous, thicker, and healthier locks for longer.

5 reasons you should have hair extensions

5 Reasons You Should Have Hair Extensions

Are you longing for long, bouncy, luscious locks but your hair just won’t grow? Have you opted for a choppy bob and instantly regretted it when your stylist started chopping bits off your mane? Or do you want your hair to look extra amazing for your wedding or another special occasion?

Hair extensions might just be the answer to your prayers. Here are 5 reasons you should have hair extensions, and why they’ll make you feel amazing.

Your hair just won’t grow

This is the most common reason that people get hair extensions. If your hair just doesn’t grow past a certain point, don’t give up on your dreams of long locks, get hair extensions. At Hot Locks, we look after your natural hair too so it won’t get damaged, and it might even start to grow out.

You want to add volume

If you have fine hair that has no shape or won’t hold a style, you might long for it to have a bit of ‘oomph.’ Hair extensions can add volume and shape to your hair, and when they’re done well, they look completely natural.

You’ll be able to wear your hair in loads of different styles

When you have longer, thicker hair, the styling options are endless. Fuller hair can make even a ponytail or a bun look more pretty and interesting, and you’ll be able to achieve much more intricate updos.

You really regret getting your hair cut

Maybe you’ve gone to the hairdresser and asked for a trim and she’s cut a few too many inches off, or you’ve had your long hair cut into a bob and you instantly regret it. Hair extensions can fix the problem. They can give you your length and volume back in a matter of hours and you can wear them while your hair grows out (unless you fall in love and decide to keep getting them forever!)

You want your hair to look amazing for a special occasion

Do you have a vision of yourself having long flowing curls on your wedding day? When you want to look a million dollars on a special occasion, beautiful hair really makes you look the part. It makes you feel gorgeous and confident, and that is priceless. Having hair extensions can give you this and more.
